LEARNINGMETHODS
Created by David Gorman, LearningMethods is a simple way to discover what
exactly the problem is and what needs changing by examining already-existing
experiences, uncovering current understandings of these experiences as well as
underlying belief systems that will help reveal any assumptions/misconceptions.
This work gives a direct way to make real-life experiments in order to discover the
way things work, allowing the option to choose different and better pathways in life.

LearningMethods is a completely alternative mindset than what I have found in most music educational approaches. While most learning approaches within vocal teachings focus on trying to "fix" a symptom, LearningMethods aims to discover understanding the root cause. The process to uncover a root cause is student-led with the educator asking a variety of open-ended questions without any agenda or end-goal in mind.

Gorman has a variety of articles published on his website, I personally recommend the following:
-
A Basic Fact and a Fundamental Question (A great introductory article to learn more about this work)
-
By Intention Alone (A great example of a LearningMethods lesson)
-
Good For Whom? (Performance Anxiety examined through LearningMethods)

David Gorman is based in Toronto, Ontario and offers a variety of workshops (both in Ontario and online) throughout the year to those interested.
